Mindset
Read the following stories about people who feel like giving up. Think about how the people in the stories are feeling. Reflect on our Mindset discussion and the book, Sacred Acre, to help these characters overcome their challenges! Choose one story and write at least three paragraphs about how the character can change their thinking to have a better mindset and attitude about the tasks they are facing. Use the articles we have read in class to add evidence to your response. You may find additional information that can help supplement your writing from the link below.
Story 1:
During Writer’s Workshop, Eric is having a hard time thinking of something to write. His teacher has helped him come up with a few ideas, but he still feels like he is stuck. Eric looks to one of his other classmates, and sees that they already have two pages written.
Eric thinks, “I’ll never be able to finish! Everyone else already has so much done. Why can’t I write like the other students in my class?”
How could Eric change his attitude about his writing? What is something else he could have said to have a better attitude about his work?
Story 2:
Lilly always finished her work very fast. She was usually the first one done with every assignment. One day she quickly passed in her writing work.
The teacher told the students to double-check their work, but Lilly thought, “I don’t need to check my work. It’s good enough.”
What should Lilly do instead? How can she change her thinking? Why is it important to check our work?
